Description

The Kennels is a building that has been converted into a dwelling. It has origins dating back to the 17th century but underwent significant rebuilding in the 18th century, with some additional work done in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of rubble and features triple-Roman tile roofs, a curved gable wall with coping and a bill finial, and a crocketted pinnacle on one of the kneelers. The building is L-shaped and incorporates some Jacobean and Gothick architectural elements.

The entrance elevation facing the road has two damaged four-pane casements on the ground floor and a three-light casement on the first floor. There is a door opening with a plank door and an exposed rubble chimney-breast on the front, while the remaining stacks are made of brick. The left end elevation showcases a tall pointed-arch Gothick window with moulded stone-mullions and intersecting stone tracery. At the rear, there is a single-storeyed contiguous outbuilding wing that features a 17th-century door frame with a semi-circular keyed head, impost blocks with strapwork motifs, and moulded jambs. This wing also includes two additional door openings, all fitted with plank doors, as well as various single-light windows in stone surrounds and two 20th-century metal casements.
