Description

The Limington War Memorial was erected in 1921, with further inscriptions added after the Second World War. It is constructed from Ham stone. The memorial stands on a square two-step base. The upper step is inscribed with the dates 1939-1945 and the words "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS. JOHN. XV.13." followed by names. Two further names are inscribed on the lower step. Above the base is a roughly-hewn plinth, inscribed on its front (west) face with "WHO FELL/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1919/" followed by names. Rising from the plinth is a tapering shaft topped with a plain Celtic cross. The west face of the shaft features a sword of sacrifice, beneath which is a laurel wreath inscribed with the words "TO/ OUR/ GLORIOUS/ DEAD."
