Description

The gate piers and short sweeps of the west boundary wall at The Old Rectory date from around 1800. They are constructed from local stone, featuring cut and squared coursed rubble that stands approximately 1.5 metres high, topped with thin copings. The sweeps extend about 3 metres in length and lead to square gate piers made of Ham stone. Each pier has a fielded panel on each exposed face above a tall plinth and is crowned with moulded hipped caps. These features hold significant group value in relation to the setting of The Old Rectory and the adjacent church.
