Three Blandford Monuments In Churchyard About 3,4 And 5 Metres South East Of The Tower, Church Of St Mary Magdalene

Three Blandford monuments are located in the churchyard about 3, 4, and 5 meters southeast of the tower of the Church of St Mary Magdalene. These are three chest tombs from the 18th century, arranged closely together.

The first tomb, 3 meters southeast of the tower, is made of Doulting and lias stone. It features a moulded base, panelled ends, and triple panelled flanks, with plain beaded pilasters and a plain frieze. The top is moulded and hipped with bull-nosed leading edges. This tomb commemorates Silas Blandford, who died in 1744, along with others.

The second tomb, 4 meters southeast of the tower, is also constructed from Doulting and lias stone. It has a moulded base, panelled ends, and double panelled flanks, but lacks a frieze or undercoving. The inscription on the east front is eroded, but the date 1755 is still discernible.

The third tomb, located 5 meters southeast of the tower, is made from Doulting stone with Keinton stone panels. It features a moulded base, panelled ends, and double panelled flanks with simple edge moulding, and no frieze. The top is shallow and hipped with moulded coving. This tomb commemorates Uriah and Jonas Blandford, who died in 1799.
