Description

SPARKFORD CP CHURCH ROAD (East side) ST62NW 4/167 Three Blandford monuments in churchyard, about 3, 4 and 5 m south-east of tower, Church of St - Mary Magdalene GV II Three chest tombs in tight group. C18. A) 3 south-east of tower: Doulting and lias stone. Moulded base; panelled ends and triple panelled flanks, plain beaded pilasters; plain frieze, moulded hipped top with bull nosed leading edges. Commemorates Silas Blandford, died 1744, and others. B) 4 south-east of tower: Doulting and lias stone. Moulded base, panelled ends and double panelled flanks, no frieze or undercoving. Inscription on east front eroded but date 1755 discernable. C) 5 m south-east of tower: Doulting stone, Keinton stone panels. Moulded base; panelled ends and double panelled flanks with simple edge moulding, no frieze; moulded coving to shallow hipped top. Commemorates Uriah and Jonas Blandford, died 1799.
