Description

Milestone located in Buckland St Mary, dating from the 18th century. It is an unidentified stone with a cambered head. The stone is incised with the words 'Chard 5, Taunton 6', and features a benchmark above. The road from The Staple Fitzpaine to Chard was turnpiked by the Chard Trust in 1778, as noted in Bentley and Murless's work on Somerset Roads from 1985.
