This milestone, located in Staple Fitzpaine Village, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of limestone and features a cast iron plaque at its central semi-circular head. The plaque is inscribed in incised lettering stating "5 miles to Taunton," though it has slight damage at the bottom left. The road from Taunton to Chard was turnpiked in 1779.
