Description

Milestone located in Churchstanton, dating from around 1782, has been reset on a new stone, likely from the 19th century. It is made of cast iron and an unidentified stone. The milestone features a pointed head with a rectangular plaque that has segmental corners and a raised surround. The inscription in raised letters reads "MILES TO TAUNTON 8 HONITON 9". The section of road from Hunters Lodge, Churchinford to the Devon boundary was turnpiked in 1792 by the Honiton Trust.
