Description
Ford House Restaurant, originally a house, is now a hotel dating from around 1800, with some alterations made during its restoration in the late 20th century. The building is rendered over rubble and features flat ashlar window surrounds, an ashlar porch, slate roofs with coped verges, and brick stacks located to the left of the entrance, on the left gable end, and on a wing at the rear. It has an L-shaped plan with a kitchen wing at the back and a gable end of the stair that projects at the angle. The structure is two storeys high and has six bays, with an inserted storey in the end bay to the left. The fenestration includes a tiff end bay to the left, while the other bays feature 16-pane sash windows, with a 12-pane sash window in the third bay above a flat-roofed ashlar Doric porch that has a six-panel door. There is a low, two-storey addition at the end bay to the left, which has 20th-century fenestration. On the rear elevation, there is a pointed arch head 16-pane sash window with divided tracery that lights the stairs, along with a 20th-century lean-to addition below it. The left gable end has 16-pane sash windows, while the right side features two and three-light casements. The interior includes a partially visible stick stair with a cut string.
