Description
5 Chilkwell Street is an early 19th-century building located on a corner site facing south. It is two storeys high and features stucco with some exposed ashlar. The building has a moulded cornice and parapet, along with a hipped slate roof. Quoin pilasters are present, and part of the south elevation protrudes forward. There are three windows, mostly sash windows with some glazing bars. The ground floor has two splayed bays, each with three lights; one bay includes a wrought-iron balustered parapet at the first floor. The doorway is framed by a Tuscan porch with an entablature, a rectangular fanlight, and a half-glazed door.
No 5 forms a group with No 3, and together they are part of a larger group of listed buildings from No 3 to No 17 on the north east side, as well as Glastonbury Abbey, Abbey House, and the wall surrounding the grounds of the Abbey and Abbey House, all of which are significant in the area.
