Description
This building, located at the corner of High Street and Combe Street, dates from around 1840. It features a stucco exterior and a hipped slate roof with stepped copings, along with a truncated brick stack on the left gable end. The structure has a single-depth plan with a curved corner bay and stands two storeys tall with a four-window range. The ground floor includes a 20th-century shopfront with a door on the corner and a tall moulded panel with concave corners on the far right. The first floor displays three moulded panels with concave corners, one on the far left and two flanking the corner window. There are 6/6-pane sash windows set within keyed square-headed rusticated architraves; the left window is on High Street, the second from the left is on the carved corner bay, and the remaining two are on Combe Street.
The range facing Combe Street, also dating from around 1840, is styled similarly to the main shop. It has a stucco finish and a slate roof with a crested ridge and stepped copings on the right gable end. This section has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high with a five-window range that is lower than the main shop. There is an off-centre wooden doorcase to the left, featuring pilasters, a cornice, and panelled reveals, along with a six-panel door and overlight. Four tripartite sash windows with 6/6-pane centres are set in rusticated stucco surrounds that include keystones and panels below. The building also has a stucco platband, plinth, and rusticated quoins. The interior has not been inspected.
