Description
This is a lamp standard located on the southeast corner of the churchyard of St Cuthbert in Wells. It was probably made around 1900 and is crafted from cast iron by Felix Thomas of Weston Super Mare. The lamp standard features a circular design with a protective stone collar at the base. The lower section is fluted and has an elaborately moulded base and upper band. The circular shaft is decorated with acanthus motifs and includes two collars adorned with stud ornaments. At the top, there are ladder brackets in an Egyptian style, supporting a wrought-iron fitting with three arms. This fitting may have been adapted in the 1930s and includes glass mirrored reflectors for the naked lamp bulbs. This lamp standard is one of four in the city, with the others located at Market Place and Cathedral Green.
