Description

This canal bridge, built around 1836, is located in Barrington, Westport. It is constructed from coursed and squared lias and hamstone. The bridge features a broad and attractive segmental archway, which is adorned with rusticated voussoirs and keystones. There is a string course at the level of the carriageway, and the parapets are topped with charred freestone copings. The carriageway rises over the center of the bridge, which has end piers. This structure is part of the former Westport Canal.
