Description
This is a pair of canal workers' cottages dating from around 1836, located at the entrance to a former canal basin. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble, with one side rendered. They feature coped verges and a slate roof, along with a brick stack and a coursed and squared rubble stack. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of two bays, with 2-light casements that have segmental heads and rubble voussoirs. There are two door openings: to the left is a late 19th-century half-glazed porch with a panelled door, and to the right are paired 20th-century glazed doors. These cottages are part of an important group of early 19th-century canal buildings and are associated with the former Westport Canal.
