Description

A First World War memorial, dating from circa 1920; altered by the addition of names of the Fallen of the Second World War after 1945.

MATERIALS: the memorial is constructed from Ham stone.

DESCRIPTION: the memorial is approximately 3.6m high. It takes the form of a cross with cusped arms set on an octagonal shaft, below which is a tapering, square plinth on a three-stepped platform. The plinth is inscribed: REMEMBER / (NAMES OF THE FALLEN) / WHO FELL IN THE WAR 1914 – 1919 / MAY THEY REST IN PEACE / AND THOSE WHO FELL IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939 – 45 / (NAMES OF THE FALLEN).
