Description

Hackney Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse constructed of local brick in Flemish bond. It features raised verges, brick stacks, and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has five bays, with a projecting brick band at the first floor level. The windows are 2-light mullioned casements with transoms and glazing bars. There is a door opening located between the third and fourth bays, which has a panelled door and a gabled brick porch with a raised verge.

To the left of the main farmhouse, there is a lower height wing that is also brick-built, with a pantiled roof and raised verge, comprising two bays. To the right of the main frontage, there is a single-storey outbuilding that runs at right angles, made of brick with a triple-Roman tile roof that has a hip at the outer end. Additionally, there is another single-storey outbuilding attached to the rear of the farmhouse, connected by a short section of brick wall that includes a throughway, featuring coped verges and pantiles.

The rear elevation of the farmhouse includes a gabled stair-turret. Inside, there are notable features such as panelling and high-quality plasterwork in the left ground floor room, as well as a hall with a good staircase that has turned balusters and an ornamental plaster ceiling.
