Description
Magnolia House is a house reputedly built in 1802, which incorporates part of a lesser 17th century structure. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a moulded stone cornice, a rendered parapet with coping, end brick stacks, and a double-span roof covered with double-roman tiles and a crested ridge. The building has a symmetrical frontage, with two storeys and an attic, and consists of three bays with 16-pane sash windows and brick voussoirs. The central door opening has a semi-circular head and contains paired three-panelled doors, along with a fanlight featuring radiating glazing bars.
Inside, the house retains many early 19th century features, including decorative plasterwork, a staircase, doors, and window shutters. It is said that the house served as a non-conformist meeting place in the 18th century, and there is a religious tract painted on the wall of a room on the first floor at the rear. Nearby, there is a non-conformist grave for John Weile.
