Description

Arundells and D. Hooper, Butcher is a farmhouse and agricultural building that has been converted into a dwelling and shop. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features roughcast over rubble with a double Roman tiled roof, which has a half-hipped south side and a gablet at the north end that projects above a hipped addition. There is a brick stack at the southwest gable end and a tall external stepped stack on the south side. The structure has a 'U'-plan, with the original block likely oriented north-south, facing the road, and includes a southwest wing and a later northwest agricultural addition.

The south front is one and a half storeys high and consists of three bays. It has 19th and 20th-century windows, including two gabled dormers with decorative bargeboards and windows that rise above the eaves level. The right side features a slightly recessed half-hipped gable end with a three-light casement and a small stairlight in the corner, along with an external stack. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light casements to the left of a 19th-century gabled, partially glazed porch, and a small 2-light casement beside the stack. The long right return faces the road and includes three gabled dormers with decorative bargeboards, as well as an inserted 20th-century shop front in the end bay on the right. The interior has not been sighted.
