Hurst Manor And Cottage Adjoining To South With West Boundary Railings

Hurst Manor and Cottage are end houses in a row located in Hurst. The manor is dated 1828, while the cottage was built in the mid-19th century. Both structures are made of Ham stone ashlar and feature hipped Welsh slate roofs with stone slab chimney stacks. The manor is two storeys high with five bays, featuring a plinth, an eaves course, and a low parapet with plain coping. It has semi-circular arched sash windows that are three panes wide in plain openings, with a deepened window in the upper bay three that nearly touches the porch. The porch has a pair of Regency style three-panel doors with a segmental arched fanlight, supported by pairs of slender Tuscan columns and pilasters, topped with a full entablature and flat roof. There is also a hipped Mansard roof extension at the rear.

The cottage is set back with a lower roof and is two storeys high with three bays. It features sash windows in plain openings, with 12 panes below and 9 panes above, and has no window in the lower bay two. To the right of bay three, there is a 20th-century fully glazed door. The interiors of both buildings have not been seen.

Approximately six metres west of both houses, there is a low stone wall topped with wrought-iron railings about 1.5 metres high, featuring arrowheads and cast urn finials on arch-braced standards. There is also a pair of ornate Regency-style gates with swept top rails opposite the main doorway, which contribute to the setting of the house and the overall streetscape.
