Description
Manor Cottages is a pair of houses located at the southeast entrance to the Manor House, likely originally serving as service cottages. They date from the early to mid-19th century and have undergone some later alterations. The cottages are built of snecked rubble with limestone dressings and feature double Roman tiled roofs adorned with crestings and a central ridge stack with diagonal chimneys. Designed in a Gothic style, the glazing matches that of the Manor House.
Each cottage is one and a half storeys tall and symmetrical, with a central door that has raised fillets and decorative strap hinges. There are 2-light casements on the outer sides and 3-light casements on the inner sides, with all ground floor openings topped by hood moulds. Each cottage also has a large off-centre gabled dormer with bargeboards and a 3-light casement in a plain surround, all featuring octagonal leaded lights.
The left return displays similar scalloped bargeboards on the gable end and has a 2-light casement at the first floor. At the time of the survey in March 1985, a lower one and a half storey rear wing was in the process of being rebuilt, featuring a stack rising from the eaves and two 20th-century single lights at the ground floor. The rear includes a single-storey lean-to with similar bargeboards at the eaves, two 20th-century casements, and a door. The gable end of the rear wing has a 3-light 20th-century window at both the ground and first floor. The interior was not inspected.
