Description
This is a group of two barns and attached shelter sheds, walls, and piers, dating from the early 19th century with some later alterations. The barns are constructed from sandstone rubble with limestone quoins and feature weathered raised coped verges. The main barns have corrugated asbestos roofs, while the shelter shed attached to the rear left has a double Roman tiled roof, and the barn attached to the rear right has a slate roof.
The two front barns are connected by a sandstone rubble wall with limestone piers, creating a courtyard layout. The northwest elevation displays the gable ends of the barns, each featuring a loading door with a segmental head. On the inner side of the courtyard, the barn on the right has a central cart entry with a segmental head and ventilation slits on either side, along with a small brick lean-to on the right. The barn on the left has a central door with a segmental head, window openings on both sides with segmental heads, and two loading doors beneath the eaves, one of which has a two-light casement window.
On the right return, the barn has two loading doors under the eaves and a single-storey lean-to alongside, which has a double Roman tiled roof and is open-fronted with eight bays and brick piers between. There is also a second brick lean-to with a door on the left. Attached to the rear gable end of the barn on the right is a lower barn with a slate roof and corrugated iron on the inner side. The barn on the left has an open-fronted shelter shed of five bays, with the rear featuring two small unglazed openings with wooden frames. Connecting the two front barns is a rubble wall approximately two meters high and three meters long, sloping down from each barn wall, with a central pair of square piers that have plain flat tops. The interiors are not accessible.
