Description

The Old Sheriffs Office is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a rendered exterior and has two prominent forward-facing gables adorned with cusped 19th-century bargeboards. The roof is covered with pantiles and there are two brick ridge stacks. The building is two storeys high with attics and consists of three bays.

On the first floor, there are three-light 19th-century casements set in chamfered "block" surrounds, while the gables have two-light casements in similar surrounds. To the left of the ground floor, there is a flat-roofed canted bay with 24 lights, also in a "block" surround. To the right, there is a broad 20th-century six-light casement in a slight recess, featuring an overhanging and chamfered lintel. The central door opening is framed in a chamfered "block" surround with an ovolo moulded wooden doorframe, leading to a 20th-century plank door topped by a flat 20th-century wooden hood. The building may have originally included timber framing.
