Description
Brean House is a late 18th-century house located on the north side of West Street, Axbridge. The house is constructed of roughcast, with end pilasters of dressed stone featuring vertical grooving and anthemion motifs. It has a pantile roof with wide eaves and two brick stacks. The main part of the house is two storeys high with three bays, displaying 12-pane sash windows. A 6-panelled door is set within a recess, a stone doorcase with a shallow moulded cornice and pilaster frieze. The transom-light features leaded decoration and three small stained glass panels. To the left of the house is a two-storey coach house with a single hay loft, also with a pantile roof and a coped verge to the left, featuring a brick stack. A 12-pane sash window is on the first floor. The ground floor has a broad segmental-headed door opening with paired 3-panelled doors, and a further narrow segmental-headed door opening with a plank door featuring vertical ribbing.
