Description

The Old Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th century and mid-20th century. The exterior is rendered and colourwashed, featuring steeply pitched roofs of slate and plain tiles, with shouldered coped gables and both a single ridge and single gable stacks. The building is two storeys high and has eight unequal bays arranged in an irregular L-plan.

The windows include casements and glazing bar sashes, some of which have segmental heads. The front of the house has a 19th-century addition on the left, which is two storeys and two bays wide, with a setback bay to the left. To the right, there is 20th-century fenestration and a carriage opening. An off-centre reeded doorcase is located to the right of the entrance, with a sash window to its left and a former porch with a sash and a casement in the return angle to its right. Further to the right, there is a flat-roofed bay window with a segmental headed casement. Above this, there are two casements to the left and a casement flanked by single sashes to the right. To the far right, there is a round window and two sashes.

The double-gabled rear elevation features 20th-century fenestration and a 20th-century wing on the left, along with a single-storey 19th-century addition on the right. Above this addition, there is a casement flanked on the left by two leaded casements and on the right by a sash. Inside, the cottage has a chamfered span beam and an early 19th-century hob grate.
