Description

The wall enclosing the garden of Doulting Manor, which includes a gateway with piers and a gazebo, dates from the 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with dressed coping. At the main driveway entrance on the east side, there are a pair of tall rusticated ashlar piers featuring cornices and ball finials, along with 20th-century wooden gates. To the south, there is a secondary pedestrian gateway with a pointed arch head, and its surround incorporates carved remains from the 15th-century Perpendicular style. In the south-east corner, there are further remnants of carved medieval work, including former fan-tracery and canopied niches. The south side of the garden features a run of walling with a gazebo at the west end, which has a rubble structure, a segmental-pointed slate roof with a finial, some fishscale banding, a pennant with a finial, slit windows, and a doorway to the north. The long section of wall on the west side of the garden is made of rubble with freestone coping and includes a small "turret" with crenellated capping. A further section of stepped rubble walling returns to the north.
