Doulting Manor and Stables (Previously Listed As the Vicarage)

Doulting Manor, originally the vicarage, is an early 18th-century manor house that was restored in the late 19th century. It features an ashlar stone front with grooved end pilasters, a sill band on the ground floor, a moulded cornice, and coursed and squared rubble on the sides. The building has coped verges and slate roofs, along with large Gothic-style ashlar stacks added in the 19th century. The symmetrical front has two storeys and an attic, with five bays and 12-pane sash windows in architraves on the first floor, featuring dropped keys. The ground floor windows are set in Gibbs surrounds with triple keys. The central door opening is also in a Gibbs surround, topped with a triangular pediment and a cartouche, leading to a half-glazed door and a late 18th-century ashlar porch that matches the style of the house, complete with a cornice and blocking course, and paired half-glazed doors.

The left side of the house displays Gothic-style stone-mullioned and transomed windows, a canted oriel, and two pairs of later French windows. At the rear, there is a stable block made of rubble with a slate roof and coped verges, featuring ashlar stacks and a finial. This stable block has two storeys and two bays, with a small opening and a pitching eye on the first floor, and two 2-light stone-mullioned windows with stopped labels on the ground floor. The pointed arch door opening has paired plank doors, along with a broad opening also fitted with plank doors. The attached walls have broad segmental openings leading to a carriage yard, and there are two reused medieval gargoyles on the wall to the left, with another gargoyle on the rear of the stable block. Inside the house, there are features from both the 18th and 19th centuries, making it a building of considerable quality.
