Description

The Abbey Barn Inn and No. 30 is an inn and house built in the late 19th century by G.J. Skipper for the Paget Family of Cranmore Hall. The building is constructed of ashlar with plain tile roofs, featuring coped verges and ashlar stacks with moulded caps, some of which are grouped. Designed in the Tudor style, it has a single storey and attic, two storeys, and two storeys and attic, arranged in a 2:1:2: bay configuration. The windows include two and three-light moulded stone-mullioned designs, with two on the first floor set in a gabled half-dormer that has transoms. The third bay from the left features a two-storey canted bay window with five lights and a cornice topped with a lead roof. There are three door openings: to the left is a ribbed door with strap hinges and a moulded stone surround with a four-centred arch head, along with a mullioned transom light; in the center is a 20th-century half-glazed door in a stone surround topped with a large semi-circular stone hood on brackets; and to the right is a recessed door opening with a six-panelled door above a lozenge-shaped recess. This building is part of an important group of structures in the center of the village.
