Description

The Old Custom House is an early to mid-18th century house located on Quay Street in Minehead. It is constructed of painted render over rubble stone, with a thatched roof and a brick stack to the right, and a shallow-pitched slate roof to the right wing. The building originally comprised two units, with an early 19th century wing added to the right. The left-hand part of the house is numbered 31A. The main section is two storeys high and features a symmetrical two-window front. The right wing is also two storeys high, with a one-window front. The windows are 20th-century three-light casements, with those to the second floor set in half dormers. A six-panelled door with an iron knocker under a hood supported by shaped brackets sits in the centre, and a service doorway is located to the far left. The right wing is distinguished by a long, chamfered quoin on its right side and a 19th-century door to the left. The interior of the building was not inspected.
