Description
The War Memorial Lych Gate is a churchyard structure built around 1945. It features a timber-frame construction with a plain tiled roof and stone rubble flank walls at its lower body. Located to the southwest of the former Church of St Mary, which closed in 1981, the lych gate has square corner uprights that rest on the stone walls. The western and eastern gabled ends are similar, showcasing arched braces at the corner posts that support slender tie beams. The roof is constructed with king post trusses, angled struts, and queen posts. The tie beam on the western gabled end bears the inscription "1939 ERECTED BY THE PARISH AS A THANKSGIVING 1945," while the eastern tie beam is inscribed "HE BROUGHT THEM OUT SAFELY." Additionally, there are a pair of low wooden gates at the western gabled end and freestanding wooden benches inside the lych gate.
