Description
The Blackwell is a well cistern located on the south side of Blackwell Road in Queen Camel. It has medieval origins, although the date of the current structure is unknown. The enclosure is made of lias stone and measures about one metre square, with walls approximately 300 millimeters thick, rising slightly above the water line. This sulphurous well has been used for medicinal purposes and likely served as a focal point in the old village of Queen Camel, which was largely destroyed by fire in 1639.
