Description
The Witches is a detached semi-bungalow built in 1874. It is constructed from local lias stone that is cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is covered with plain clay tiles and features simple overhung gables, along with an ashlar chimney stack that has a moulded cap. The building is single-storey with attics and consists of four bays. It has chamfer mullioned windows with diamond leaded panes; the lower set is positioned under relieving arches. Most windows are two-light, but there is a single-light window in bay three and a three-light window in bay four. The outer bays are gabled and have attic windows, with a small timber casement in a pitched-roof dormer window above bay three. Bay two features a pitched roof porch with a chamfered cambered arched doorway and a boarded door. There is a datestone in the gable of bay one. The interior has not been seen. This building is noted as a surprisingly advanced example for its date and is included mainly for its significant group and streetscape value.
