Description

QUEEN CAMEL CP HIGH STREET (West side) ST5924 8/112 Banksia, and front boundary railings 24.7.61 GV II Detached house. C17 origins, modified. Local lias stone cut and squared; double Roman clay tile roof between stepped coped gables; brick end chimney stacks on stone bases. L-plan: storeys, 3 bays. Above, small pane casement windows under timber lintols, obscured by blind boxes, to outer bays; to centre bay Regency style 6-panel door under rectangular fanlight, with flat metal hood on shaped timber brackets, propped by 3 metal rods each side. Lean-to against west gable, substantial outshut to rear: rear wing includes 2-storey bay window of 8 + 12 + 8-pane sashes under lead flat roof. Interior not seen, but reported are spiral stair to attic and remains of a stairlight. On south-east corner a tall stone wing wall, with angled sweep down, then remainder of east and south boundary marked by cast iron railings with bud finials, with wrot iron gate on angle having low stone base on south side; the whole adding to the setting of the house and the streetscape generally on a bend in the main road.
