Description
Overton House is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from locally sourced lias stone that is roughly cut and squared, and features a double Roman clay tile roof with coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building is L-shaped, two storeys high, and consists of three bays. The windows are sash style in simple openings with timber lintels, featuring 20 panes in the outer bays and 16 panes in the upper centre bay. The lower bay has a six-panel door with four glazed panels, set within a Regency style timber surround that includes fluted pilasters and a finely detailed dentilled pediment. The interior has not been seen.
In front of the house, there are boundary railings that extend from both ends, reaching three metres from the front. These railings have curved corners and feature alternate hoops and fleurs-de-lys cast tops, set on a low stone base. Matching gates are located opposite the door, all of which contribute to the overall setting of the house and enhance the streetscape.
