Description

This is a pair of gates with attached railings, located approximately 15 metres east of the Parish Church of St Mary, dating from around 1840. Made of cast iron, the double full-height gates feature horizontal friezes at the centres and bases, adorned with four large quatrefoils and closely spaced vertical rails in between. Above the gates, the railings are connected by pointed arches, each topped with circular-section pointed finials. The flanking columns, which support the gates, are hollow square sections with panelled plinths and hold an ogee-arched overthrow. This overthrow is decorated with a crocketed finial at the top and intricate ornamentation of quatrefoils, trefoils, and scrolls on the intrados, along with a 20th-century lamp at the centre. The structure is flanked by 20th-century restored railings.
