Description
The gate-piers, gates, and railings to the churchyard east of the Church of St Mary date from the late 19th century. They consist of coursed stone rubble piers topped with freestone caps, along with cast iron gates and railings set on a stone rubble plinth. There are two square-section gate-piers, each capped with a two-tier pyramidal freestone top. The pair of cast iron gates features spear finials above the top and middle rails, with the middle rail adorned by a frieze of cast iron foliage. The cast iron railings are divided into bays by vertical balusters, which have elaborate cast iron brackets attached on the churchyard side, and spear finials on both the verticals and balusters. This structure holds group value with the church.
