Description

Trevett Memorial Chapel is a former Bible Christian Chapel built in 1892, which was in use as a store at the time of the survey in 1987. The chapel closed in 1933 when its congregation merged with the ex-Wesleyans. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and features a gabled design at both ends, showcasing a Decorated Gothic style. The building has a rectangular plan and is two bays long.

The exterior is well preserved, with the north end serving as the entrance. It features a two-leaf plank door with elaborate hinges beneath a trefoil-headed fanlight. On either side of the door are two-light windows with cusped lights and head tracery, along with a round cusped window in the gable. The foundation stones are inscribed with names, likely of those who contributed to the building's costs. The east side has two windows similar to those on the north end, while the west side was not visible during the survey.

Although the interior was not inspected, it is believed to retain its original Gothic Revival roof. The Bible Christian church was established in Devon by William O'Bryan to reach rural communities that he felt were largely untouched by conventional Christianity. While chapels varied in style, purpose-built chapels continued to use simple Gothic details well into the 19th century and beyond.
