Description
10 and 12 George Street is a house or inn dating from the mid-18th century. It is built of painted Flemish-bond brick and features a pantile roof with brick stacks at the gable ends, which have been truncated on the right side. The building has a double-depth plan and includes a low two-storey rear right wing. It stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range.
The windows at the front and rear have bracketed cills and keystones, with the first-floor windows integrated into brick platbands. There are platbands above the ground floor, although the one at the rear has been cut away. The second floor features 3/3-pane sash windows in forward frames, while the first floor has similar 6/6-pane sashes. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century window on the right, and to the left, a high opening spans two ranges and is supported by a steel girder. A six-panel door is located on the right side of this opening, suggesting there may have been a former, possibly smaller entrance to the rear courtyard. The rear of the building has similar sashes and openings, with flat and segmental-arched doorways and windows leading to the rear stable wing. The interior has not been inspected.
