Description
Camel Farmhouse is likely of 17th-century origin, although it has undergone later modifications. Constructed from local lias stone, squared and cut, it has a double Roman clay tiled roof with overhanging gables and brick chimney stacks, although one west gable stack is stone with offsets. The building follows a U-shaped plan and is predominantly two storeys, three bays wide. It features two-light casement windows with small panes, set beneath chamfered timber lintols. There is an additional small window at a lower level between the first and second bays. A projecting open stone porch sits between the second and third bays, capped with a gable and a tiled roof; the porch features semi-circular arches to both the front and sides. A small lean-to extension adjoins the west gable, recessed to the depth of the chimney stack. The interior has been altered, but retains several deep-chamfered beams, a good fireplace in the west gable with an ovolo-moulded cross beam, and evidence of a former circular staircase. Several old door frames survive, but the first floor was not inspected.
