Description

The stables, located 10 meters southeast of Crowcombe House, date from the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed from shale and lias random rubble with brick dressings and are designed in an L-plan. The shorter southern stable block features a half-hipped local slate roof topped with a decorative slate-hung cupola and weathervane. The building is single storey with a loft above and consists of three bays. It has a large central carriageway entrance with a segmental head, an arched head sash window with divided tracery to the right, and segmental headed double doors to the left.

Attached to the southwest is a long four-bay facade with a delta tile roof. The first floor includes two 2-light casements to the left of the loft door and one to the right. On the ground floor, there is an arched head sash window to the left, many-paned glazed openings to the right flanking a central double door, and a plank door to the left. This stable group is attractive and remains unaltered from its early to mid-19th century design.
