Description

Forge Cottage and The Old Forge is a cottage that has recently included a smithy, now divided into two dwellings. It has medieval origins and has been altered in the 16th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building features colour washed random rubble and a triple Roman tiled roof, with brick stacks located at the left gable end, centre left, and between the first and second bays on the right. The structure is an open hall type, significantly altered and enlarged, with a single bay addition on the left from the late 19th to early 20th century and extensions at the rear. It is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The windows are 20th century casements, with a single light window on the left end, two- and three-light casements in the centre, and a two-light casement on the ground floor right, along with a 20th century plank door on the right and French windows on the left. Inside, there are chamfered beams with step and run-out stops, and one jointed cruck truss is visible.
