Description

Elgin Tower is a house dated 1887, built in the Scottish Baronial style. It is constructed of snecked red sandstone ashlar with gabled slate roofs, brick stacks, and is situated in a prominent position overlooking Minehead. The asymmetrical design incorporates a complex plan. The house is three and four storeys high, with an irregular window pattern. A three-storey crow-stepped gable is on the left, complemented by a four-storey square tower to the right, featuring a taller stair turret and canon waterspouts, as well as castellated parapets with false machiolation. The entrance, reached by a staircase to the first floor, is distinguished by a large semicircular arch beneath a crow-stepped gable, which bears a datestone. Rainwater heads are also dated. A low circular bay is situated to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
