Description
These two cottages, named Belle Vue, date from the late 17th or early 18th century and are located on Quay Street, Minehead. They are built with painted render over rubble stone, and have slate and artificial slate roofs. A brick stack is situated on the right gable end, which also serves as the external stack for the adjacent property at No.1. There are two brick stacks on the party wall, one on the ridge and one on the front slope.
No.2 Belle Vue has a two-unit plan with a central passage. It has a two-window front, with C19 three- and four-light casement windows positioned under the eaves. These windows have three panes to each leaf. A four-light casement window is located on the ground floor to the right. The centrally positioned planked door, now grained, is sheltered by an 18th-century hood supported on moulded consoles. A small, rectangular C20 bay window with a two-light casement and pitched slate roof is positioned to the left. An 18th-century coved plaster cornice runs beneath the eaves. No.3 Belle Vue is a single-unit cottage with a one-window front, featuring a C20 door and windows.
The interior of No.2 includes planked doors and a cross-beam on the ground floor to the right.
