Description

No. 18 Chamberlain Street is a house in a row, likely dating from the early 19th century, and probably representing a refronting of an 18th or earlier building. The front is rendered with imitation ashlar jointing and a colourwash, with a Welsh slate roof between abutments and a brick chimney stack. The two storeys are arranged with three bays. Features include a plinth and plain end pilasters. The house has plain sash windows in plain surrounds, with the lower windows divided into four panes. The central bay has a six-panel door within a timber surround, featuring a reeded architrave and a pediment hood supported by console brackets. A footscraper is located to the left of the door. The interior has not been inspected. The arrangement of windows suggests that the house began as a two-unit dwelling, with an unheated service room to the left of the entrance and a large heated room to the right.
