Description

No 269 on Preston Road is a cottage dating from the 17th or 18th century, with a new street facade added around 1900. The building is constructed of local stone in random courses, featuring stone dressings and a plain clay tile roof with coped gables and brick chimney stacks. It has two storeys and a varied arrangement of windows, including large pane sash windows from the 19th century on the north elevation, which also has a recessed porch.

The east end of the north elevation likely retains its original stonework, including a small blocked semi-circular arched stairlight from around 1700. High on the east gable, there is a matching pair of slightly larger windows. On the south (rear) side, the rendered wall features three 3-light hollow chamfered mullioned windows, two of which are located at first floor level.

Internally, although only partly inspected, there is a fireplace from around 1700 on the east wall, but the adjacent winding staircase has been removed. The single-storey and two-storey rear extensions are not considered of interest.
