Description

This milestone, dating from the 18th century, is located on the roadside at Catcott, along Bath Road. It is made of dressed stone with a rounded top and is partially sunken into the ground. The milestone features a cast-iron plate attached to the road, which has incised lettering stating "7 MILES TO B'WATER". This milestone is part of the Bridgwater Turnpike Trust and is noted in the publication "Somerset Roads, The Legacy of the Turnpikes, Western Somerset" by Bentley J B and Nurless B J, published in 1985.
