Description
Pilgrims Rest is a house dating from the 15th or 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of colourwashed rubble and features a double-Roman tile roof with two restored brick stacks. The building has two storeys and two bays, with late 19th century or early 20th century casement windows that include glazing bars. The front has three buttresses with offsets. To the right, there is a door opening framed by a moulded 4-centred arch made of stone, leading to a plank door. On the left side, there is an outshut with a double-Roman tiled roof and a plank door, which appears to be mainly from the 20th century. Inside, there are signs of an arch-braced roof truss and a fireplace with a wooden bressumer. It is believed that this building served as a resting place for pilgrims traveling to Glastonbury Abbey. An attached cottage named Dunmore is noted but is not of special interest.
