Description

This is a 19th-century milepost located on the roadside at Greinton, on the west side of Taunton Road. Made of cast iron and produced in Bridgwater, the milepost features a large flat upright slab with a cambered top. It has raised lettering that faces the road, indicating the distances to various locations: "GREINTON; OTHERY 3 1/4 M; TAUNTON 15M; GLASTONBURY 6 7/8 M; ASHCOTT 2 1/8 M". This milepost is a prominent feature along the road and is part of the Taunton Turnpike Trust.
