Description
CUDWORTH CP ST31SE 2/24 Seven monuments in churchyard, in line beginning about 4 metres west of Church of St Michael - GV II Group of seven headstones in line, Mostly C18, but No 1 of early C19. has stone slabs. No 1 (the most northerly) of Regency pattern, about 800mm wide x l100mm high x 120mm thick, with segmental arched head and shaped panel with urn and foliage decoration; commemorates _ died l810. Nos 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 of a matching C18 pattern, averaging 800mm wide x l100m high x 120mm wide, with chamfered backs, the tops having 3 interlinked semi-circular panels with angel heads flanking an hourglass (except No 7, which has a central skull), with foliage around the edges of panels, and tasselled centre drops (except No 2). No 6 similar but not so tall, and has a single seii-circular panel at crown with an angel head flanked by scrolls. No 2 commemorates Elizabeth, wife of Hugh White, died 1793; No 3 Thomasin, wife of John Notley, died 1766; No 4 Anne, daughter of John Notley, died 1764; No 5 John Notley, died 17__; No 6 Elizabeth Notley, died 1736 (or 56): So 7 Joan Notley, died 1749: in each case there are additional names on the headstones.
