Description
The entrance gateway, located immediately south of the lodge to Cricket Court, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed from ham stone ashlar and features cast ironwork. The gateway consists of four piers, with the two central piers standing about 4 meters tall. Each of these central piers has three fielded panels on each face, cornice caps, and 20th-century urn finials. The two outer piers are approximately 2.5 meters tall, made of rusticated ashlar with one flint panel on each face, also topped with cornice caps and 20th-century ball finials. The central gates are made of heavy cast ironwork, likely from the early 19th century, and feature arrowhead rails, a double middle rail with cross-bracing on the lower panels, and swept curved tops. There are matching side panels between the principal and subsidiary piers. This gateway has significant group value with Cricket Court.
