Range Of Farm Buildings, About 40 Metres South Of Abbey Farmhouse, And Pond About 5 Metres To East

This range of farm buildings, located about 40 metres south of Abbey Farmhouse and with a pond approximately 5 metres to the east, likely dates from the late 18th century, with a 19th-century extension. The buildings are constructed from cut and squared Ham stone, with the southern end featuring coursed rubble. The roofs are plain clay tiles over stone slate base courses, with stepped coped gables; the southern section has triple-roll clay tiles.

The complex consists of three sections. The northernmost section is a long building with four bays and an intermediate floor at the southern end. The first bay has a chamfered upper doorway with a flight of stone steps, which lacks a handrail. The second bay features narrow rectangular windows with chamfered surrounds on both levels. The third bay has a large doorway that now has a concrete lintel and a pair of doors covering the lower half. The fourth bay contains a shuttered unglazed two-light window. Attached to the west side of this block is a donkey-wheel house, which has a semi-circular western end and a hipped roof, though no machinery remains visible inside. The interior of this block has queen-post roof trusses.

The central block has three bays, with doorways at both levels in the centre bay, and two-light shuttered unglazed windows with timber lintels in the outer bays. The lower bay of the first outer section is now blocked. The third section, dating from the 19th century, is a waggon shed with two bays that is open to the west.

About 5 metres to the east of the later sections is a roughly circular pond with stone-lined walls, measuring approximately 30 metres by 25 metres overall. This pond appears on a survey drawing from 1782 and may have been the fishpond of the medieval Priory of Montacute. The farm appears to have been revitalised around 1780, and the northern outbuilding may date from this period.
