Description
The George Hotel is an inn dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with coped verges and features three brick ridge stacks, along with a tall rubble stack rising from the eaves on the left side. The building is designed in a plain Gothic style and has two storeys with a symmetrical facade of one bay, one bay, one bay, and two bays, with the second and third bays set under front-facing gables. The windows include 2, 3, and 4-light mullioned casements, some of which have transoms, and are framed by chamfered dressed stone surrounds. There is a narrow single light window to the left on the first floor and a canted bay window with six lights and a transom in the second bay on the ground floor. The roof is hipped and covered with slate.
A broad carriageway leads to the third bay, featuring a 4-centred arch head with a chamfered dressed stone surround of two orders and paired plank doors. A wrought-iron lamp projects over the entrance. At the rear, there is an attached wing that is likely from the 17th century, and the interior includes exposed ceiling beams.
